Introduction
Only one generation is known for each of these families that married into the 'Buxted Muddles'. Richard Longly had fourteen children at Rotherfield during the last quarter of the 16th century. His daughter Mary married John Hider and had two children before John died; she then married Thomas Muddle in 1615. William Vincent had twelve children at Rotherfield during the second quarter of the 17th century, a period that included the English Civil War. His youngest daughter, Elizabeth, married John Muddle in 1676. John and Mary Gaston married in 1799 and they had six children at Thames Ditton. Their daughter Sarah married Joseph Muddle of High Hurstwood in 1823.
